Review: Element of Art: VALUE

Definition:Value is a basic element of art that refers to the gradual change of lightness or darkness of a color. It is created when a light source shines upon an object creating highlights, form shadows and cast shadows .

Step I

Assignment:  Creating Value Scales

Being able to create several different shades of value will allow you to make objects look three-dimensional in your shaded drawings. You will be able to imitate the illusion of light and shadow. Also, having the ability to create shades in different ways (blending, hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, etc) will give you the ability to do this with media that cannot be blended, such as pen.
